Background
Across British Columbia, many remote First Nation communities face significant challenges in accessing healthcare services due to geographical isolation and limited transportation options. This creates barriers for individuals who need to travel long distances to receive essential medical care. To address these challenges, the Kucén application was developed to support administrative staff in organizing, tracking, and reporting medical travel arrangements across the province. By streamlining the process, Kucén helps ensure that communities can more efficiently manage patient transportation and improve access to healthcare services.
My Role
As a Business Analyst, I played a key role in the development of the Kucén application. I facilitated workshops to gather requirements from stakeholders, conducted process modeling to ensure the solution fit within existing workflows, and collaborated with developers to ensure that features aligned with user needs. Additionally, I leveraged my expertise in Jira and Confluence to track progress, manage requirements, and coordinate feedback from community users throughout the development cycle. This ensured the delivery of a solution that addressed the logistical challenges faced by administrative staff in remote communities.
The Application
Kucén directs administrative staff through customized authentication processes based on their organization. For users with active directory capabilities, single sign-on is supported, while others are required to use multi-factor authentication for secure access, ensuring that the system remains adaptable to various organizational infrastructures.
Administrative staff can view and manage a comprehensive list of all trips planned by their organization. This feature provides an organized overview, allowing users to easily track the status of travel plans, make adjustments, and ensure all logistics are in order.
A detailed view of each trip allows users to enter essential information such as trip notes, assigned escorts, travel arrangements, and associated costs. This feature also includes a rules engine that flags trips that fall outside of the coverage policy, helping users stay compliant with the organization’s guidelines.
Kucén offers a centralized client profile where administrative staff can manage and update client details. This ensures that all relevant information about individuals needing travel is accessible in one location for streamlined coordination.
Kucén includes robust reporting features that provide management with valuable insights into spending patterns, travel frequency, and other key metrics. These reports help organizations make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and budgeting.
The application integrates with multiple external systems and databases to deliver up-to-date and relevant data. This ensures that users have access to the latest information, making it easier to plan and manage medical transportation efficiently.
