Background
British Columbia Centre for Disease Control have a pharmacy which dispenses and ships medications across the province. As an organization that strives to continually improve they wanted a full review of their processes to understand where improvements could be made.
My Role
Operating as a Business Analyst I completed extensive interviews with members of staff and watched them complete their daily tasks to understand how they performed their jobs. Once complete I created full workflow diagrams for all key processes in the pharmacy:
- Purchasing
- Filling
- Med rec
- Pre packaging
- Shipping
- Pharmacy management
- Other processes
Once current state flows were identified I was able to identify areas of the processes that could be improved.

28 process flows across all areas of the pharmacy were created, the filling processes are shown below.
